Is the page layout really preserved?
Yes. Every text block is redrawn inside its own box; the page count, tables, heading hierarchy and images stay where they were. Where a translation runs longer than the source the type size is reduced in a controlled way, never below 70% of the original.
Can a scanned PDF be translated?
No. Only PDFs with a text layer are translated; a scanned (image-only) document is refused with a clear error code rather than quietly producing an empty result. OCR is out of scope for now.
What happens if one page cannot be translated?
That page is kept in the document in its ORIGINAL form and you are told which page failed and why; no blank page is produced. You can retry just those pages, and credits are charged only for them.
Which languages can I translate into?
Eight target languages are offered and the source language is detected automatically. The document's own language is not offered as a target, and the interface language is independent of the translation target.
